The roots of O&K Mining Machines GmbH (today Terex GmbH) reach back to 1876 when the Company's founders Benno Orenstein and Arthur Koppel hit upon the idea of moving rock and soil more quickly and efficiently by using narrow-gauge railways. Even in those days evaluations of economic efficiency provided the basis for multiplying labor productivity and lowering the operators' time and energy input.
